THE ORANGERY

A modern extension inspired by history
Introduction

A modern extension inspired by history

As part of the reorganisation of its activities, the John Cockerill Group chose to build an elegant and functional extension adjacent to Cockerill Château, bringing its 500-strong workforce together. Named the Orangery in homage to the historic 18th-century gardens that once surrounded the château, this new structure combines modernity with complete respect for its heritage.

Construction of a building adjacent to Cockerill Château.

A true technological marvel, the building features a 38m x 25m cantilever supported by live cables embedded in a foundation that is more than 10m deep. From an aesthetic point of view, a mashrabiya with golden reflections acts as solar protection system. What’s more, it covers the most exposed façades.

A multi-purpose space

The Orangery houses spacious offices, an auditorium equipped with the latest technology, a welcoming restaurant and a car park with over 400 spaces to meet the Group’s operational and logistical needs. The project features a contemporary design that blends harmoniously into the site’s historic environment.
